These issues came to a head, when war broke out between British Redcoats and Massachusetts Minutemen, at the Battles at Lexington and Concord. War had begun, but the colonies were still considered part of Great Britain. It wasn't until the delegates at the 2nd Continental Congress voted to declare independence, or break up with Great Britain, that the U.S. was officially born.
